My name is Kathy, and I'm a thirty-something writer. I live in Willoughby, near some excellent hiking areas such as Squires Castle, which was my first hike with this group. I am a lifelong lover of nature, beginning with girl scouts :) and continuing on to a three-month experience in the UK in 1981 where I was a volunteer for the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers. For three months I built foot bridges through nature areas, helped erect fences to protect saplings from sheep foraging, and cut down brush around areas like Stone Henge so biologists could study the types of lichens that grow on these ancient rocks.
Today I hike for fun, pure and simple. In fact, pure and simple is exactly why I'm attracted to nature. How much more peace can you get than the natural serenity of the woods? It's a great healing of the spirit to reconnect with the natural world. I am a member of the Cuyahoga Valley Hiking Association, a group that mainly does winter hikes, so I am glad to see this group is active in summer so I can hike all year long with nature-oriented people. I do mostly short hikes and am working up to backpacking. I had a setback this spring, but have not given up. Some of you may remember I was looking for good women's hiking boots for a very narrow foot. I have been able to purchase Dunham (now owned by New Balance) waterproof boots in 2A which work very well!

I am 55 and have hiked and backpacked in West Virginia, North Carolina, and The Tetons Mountain range in Wyoming. I have a 12 year old son and he and I hike and kayak. I just dayhiked parts of the Shawnee State Park last weekend. I am married with a 16 year old daughter and my wife, Kathleen, who loves to dayhike. I prefer dayhiking but am interested in some one or two night backpack trips too.

I have been hiking all of my life and recently jumped into backpacking this past November. I did an overnight trip in Zaleski State Forest in southern Ohio with a few friends and absolutely loved it. I also like to mountain bike and pretty much anything to do with being outside. When I'm not outside, I'm working as an RN in Cleveland.

I'm a 26 years old male and have been slowing getting back into shape over the last year and a half, hurt my knee in a bad car accident(it's much better now). Have always loved camping, and taking hikes through the woods so I've decided to try a little backpacking to see what it's like. Hoping to find a few pals to go packing with to teach me the ropes or just join in on the experience.
My daily grind involves being a electrician at the timken company in canton, ohio. I grew up in new philadelphia ohio. then moved to Akron, OH for a few years now im back in my home town.
I usually go white water rafting a few times every summer down to the New River and Gauley River in WV. Well thats about all i got hope to see you on the trails

I'm 54 from Columbus, OH. Started backpacking in 2001 and haven't reached my limit yet. I like adventurous, challenging hikes with good company. The JMT is my longest outing - 17 days. So far, my favorite trips have been to the Sierra's, the Northern Rockies of MT and WY, and Utah's canyon country.
I hope to visit the North Cascades and Canadian Rockies soon. Closer to home, I've yet to see much around Lake Superior or NE Minnesota.
Once I get the required trips in, I can post some with NEOH.

My first backpacking experience was in 1999 at age 13 in West Virginia. Since then, I've hit various spots around Ohio and WV, but my favorite trail/area is definitely the AT around Mount Rogers (Grayson Highlands). I was a camp counselor for 4 summers and am now looking to find others who love the outdoors and want to go camping. Anyone with tips on gear (especially inexpensive, but sturdy and reliable tents and stoves) I'd love to hear from you!
