I am grateful for the beauty of creation, and have enjoyed the outdoors (backpacking, rafting, cycling, making snow angels) for, well, decades. Camping by a creek, fire crackling quietly, stars peeking shyly through the trees--no better way to let stress funnel off and down the creek...

I am 32 years old. I have a lot of experience camping but zero experience backpacking. I am looking at getting into the activity because I love the outdoors and I know it will be great exercise. I have played sports my whole life (including college) and I am in good condition. I look forward to meeting a lot of you, see you on the trails.

I love to walk, hike, camp, and enjoy all types of nature Would love to do more of it. Work full time at Dollar General in the Warehouse Management Systems, my hours can be different. I have been on one hike that lasted five days in Philmont, New Mexico with a group. We hiked 10 miles a day and did some side hikes. That was over 10 years ago. I still do some day hiking and walking, but my time is limited. Would love to get more involved. Would not do trip alone. Was involed with Boy Scouts, very active troop and 4-H, very active, plus worked one summer in Maine at a girls camp taking girls on 3 day trips, canoe, bike, etc.

I am 27 years old. I live in Chardon. I am a law student at Cleveland-Marshall. I enjoy hiking and backpacking and would like to meet other backpacking enthusiasts. The coolest place I've hiked in so far was Yosemite National Park. I've also been to Rockey Mountain National Park which was really beautiful too. There were elk all over the place. Around this area I've hiked some in Cuyahoga Valley N.P., Shawnee State Forest, and Allegheny National Forest. I'd like to hear about other good places to hike and backpack around Northeast Ohio.

I hate that I am stuck in the normal rat race of society and hope after retirement i can escape to some untouched wilderness. I am hoping to find some temporary solitude in backpacking until I can finacially afford to escape this life of extra-long work weeks for mortgages and utility bills.

I've recently moved back to Cleveland after a decade-long absence and am looking to meet people who can reintroduce me to the area and the places I didn't know about when I was growing up here.
I've done backpacking trips in the San Juan range and Indian Peaks in Colorado, the Teton Crest, South Wilderness Coast in Olympic NP, and all around Honduras as a Peace Corps volunteer. Some day hikes w/snowshoes in the ADKs, but no real winter camping to date - I chalk this up to lack of adventurous compatriots rather than my willingness to try! I'm excited that this seems to be such an active group.

I just got out of a year long AmeriCorps term based in Flagstaff, AZ. I grew up in Ohio but didn't appreciate all it had to offer in terms of hiking. Now that I've lived in the field for eight days at a time, hiking up to ten miles each day, I look forward to having similar experiences in my hometown state.

My first serious backpacking experience was an Outward Bound in Cedarmesa, southern Utah hence the monikker. I've since backpacked or dayhiked the AT, the White Mountains, Finger Lakes, Death Valley, Pennsylvania, Maine, Absaroka-Beartooth Range in MT as well as the local menu of Metroparks and CVNP, rain, snow or shine. I enjoy building skillset in compass/map, first aid, knots, hitches etc., and other useful stuff when not distracted by wage earning. As of 05 07 I have my three year WFR cert.

I am 38, and have always loved the outdoors. I spent much time in the field during my military years, but have just gotten into civilian backpacking. I went on my first trip, led by Youngvine from this site in PA on the mid-state trail between Blackwell/Little Pine, 25 miles, 20 degrees, awesome! By the way great people and great friends, what more could anyone want! I also love to scuba dive, bike, baseball, ski, golf, and pretty much anything that keeps me out doors.

I am a member of the Ohio-West Virgina Outfitters, a group of "veteran" educators that enjoy backpacking. Our mileage is not much, about 5-7 miles on Saturday and 2-3 miles on Sunday. I usually organize the trips. We have hiked the entire NCT in the ANF twice and are doing some sections a third time while hiking in some other areas. We are interested in eating well.

Started backpacking in college. While others went to the beach for spring break, I preferred the mtns. Took off quite a few years inbetween until kids got older. I'm a hydrologist by day, so fortunate that I still get plenty of time in woods, creeks and streams. Over last five years, able to get back into backpacking and enjoy a few nice trips a year. Wanting to expand adventures into kayaking now also. Wonderful to see the interest in the group.

I was born and raised on the west side of Cleveland, moved to Cincinnati after college, and now live in Cape Coral, Florida. Boy is it flat here. A three day camping/climbing visit to the "old stomping grounds" of the Red River Gorge in KY showed my how much stamina and strength I've lost in just a year of living in the land of the flat.
Longing for trails with some elevation change!

I am a long time hiker. I started back in the early 90's and have collected tons of equipment over the years...I enjoy the peace and serenity that only comes with turning off your cell phone, pager, fax and email. I have participated in many trips, both as planner and participant; everything from simple over nighter to extended portions of the AT. I have been looking for a group to join and possibly get involved in some trips...glad I found this site.

I usually find myself wandering on trails for long periods of time- now I want to branch out and start staying out overnight.... I have always wanted to be a backpacker but none of my friends share my enthusiasm. My father always took us on hikes when we were kids and I find there is no place I enjoy more than being on a trail. I have never truly backpacked before so I am hoping the veterans in the group would be willing to teach me the ropes....

I am a former Boy Scout who was lucky to have been in a good camping Troop. I learned my craft well from some very good teachers--Mr. Sooy and Mr. Konik especially, but also my friends in Scouting, Chris K, Dan K, Jamie L, and many more. I haven't camped or backpacked nearly as much as I'd have liked to . . . and I aim to change that. My wife and I will be taking our kids out camping, but they're very young so we will proceed with caution. Our future plan to hike the AT is more well-formed than are our retirement plans. One must have priorities! Looking forward to learning from you all and sharing stories and information about hikes and backpack trips from NEO.

hailling from the veritable arctic tundra of buffalo, ny, i have been living in cleveland since january of 2004. i have been hiking for over 20 years; 2010 = year #7 for backpacking. so far, my favourite trips have been to the wind river and absaroka mountain ranges in wyoming, the mt. rogers area in virginia, and the dolly sods/roaring plains areas in w. virginia. i am a dog lover and fancy photography, the cleveland orchestra, good food and wine and live on strong coffee (peets). when i am not trying to get outdoors, i am a researcher at the cleveland clinic in the department of pathobiology where i study liver disease and innate immunity/inflammation. i love cleveland and northeast ohio and am proud to call it home. finding this club and friends i have made while here only make it better.

Love to go backpacking and hiking but my friends have either moved on, gotten married and had kids, or just plain disappeared. I backpack at Laurel Highlands and Bear Run mostly and love winter hiking but looking to expand my horizons to areas I have not hiked yet and new friends I can hike with. Some other activities I do include bicycling and snow skiing, neither I get to do very often any more. I do enjoy camping with my six year old son, Sam, but he is not quite ready for large backpacking trips yet. I have an awesome wife of eight years but she just is not an outdoors person, she has tried but just can't do more than a night or two in a tent with an air bed and with in a short walk of flush toilets.

37 year old backpacker that also does a lot of hiking, trail running and mountain biking with some occasional (though not enough) kayaking thrown in to boot. In 2006 I did a hut to hut trek in the White Mountains and in 2009 5 days in the Bridger-Teton National Forest with some Jackson Hole mountain biking for good measure.
My goal is to complete the Vermont Long Trail within 5 years and also the Appalachian or Pacific Crest Trail within the next 10 years.
Currently on my to do list is a combo raft/backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon, the Teton Crest Trail, a week in the Sawtooths, a flyfishing float of the Snake River, a week in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, a British Columbia backpacking trip, backpacking into Machu Pichu, and trekking in the Himalayas and to Everest Base Camp.

I've been hiking my entire life (it seems) and backpacking for about 10 years. I love getting out anytime of year. My favorites include Otter Creek Wilderness (WV), Blackwater falls area (WV) and several lovely spots in the alleghenies. SE ohio isn't bad either!
I'm interested in getting out more this year than in the last couple and wanted to see who else in the region was heading to the woods!

I'm a chemical engineer who grew up loving the outdoors but with 4 kids I drifted away from getting out and doing as much outdoor activity as I would like. I bought a bora 80 pack last fall and did an overnighter at Zaleski with two of my kids and then a few weeks later did about 30 miles at the knobstone trail in southern indiana with my son and some relatives on my wife's side. Thought I would check out what sort of trips and things get organized by this group and what all was involved in going.

I've recently discovered that I really enjoy backpacking. I've loved camping for many years and backpacking makes it that much better. I was previously a park ranger and in general, I love the outdoors. Kayaking, camping, hiking, fishing......just about anything.

Looking foward to meeting other intelligent mammals that have knowledge to share, logging as many miles and trips as I can afford and some that I can't...you know what I mean. I've been "into" the outdoors all my life, avid photograper, technology freak, very easy going, I have enough igorance of my own, I try not to deal with other peoples. I try to use common sense and actually make decisions based on reality. As you can see I'm pretty straight and to the point. I have way too many magazine subscriptions, I own way too much gear, and my wife just rolls her eyes when I tell her I bought something else. I have way too many hobbies to list here, and I finally made the huge right turn on the path that is life and became a father on October30 2006. Well I guess I'll leave it at that and let you all get to know me on the trails and the forum.......

I'm 30yrs old and love everything the outdoors has to offer. I've done everything from whitewater kayaking to rock climbing to mountainbiking. I had done some backpacking as a kid and have hiked my whole life but have just revisited backpacking as of a couple of years ago. I'm getting more and more increasingly hooked on it and love the escape thats offered by heading in to the backcountry with all of your supplies on your back.
I do mostly weekend trips in to PA but over the past two years I've gone out east to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine as well as a trip through the Sierra Nevada range in CA. I'm looking forward to meeting some local backpackers and hopefully jumping in to some group trips soon.
