I am interested in continuing to hike this spring and summer and am really enjoying building my backpacking skills. I have been an active member of the club for a year now and have met great people with whom I love to travel and hang out. The forthcoming trip to Wind River, Wyoming will be a serious milestone in terms of my commitment to backpacking. I am a tutor/teacher, currently working in my family's business part time. I look forward to seeing you on the trails!

Before joining the club in 2009, I last backpacked on a serious basis 30 years earlier. My longest previous trip was a five-night winter trip on the AT out of Pigeon Forge in 1972. Since joining the club, I have taken 4 club-sponsored trips--the longest a 5-nighter in the Bridger at the end of July 2009, the others weekenders to PA and WV. I am now 66 years old and enjoying the sport as much as I did when I was in my 30's. Outside the club, I have also done a 3-night trip in the Smokies and a 3-night trip in Yosemite in the past 12 months.

Hi, Im a research assistant at Duke. I used to live in Cleveland and moved to NC recently. Mostly I still keep access to this site cuase of the good trail desciptions. I may not live in the same town, but I hike some of the same trails. NEOH is a really good group of people... Ive been on several trips and each one has been fun. You can find a few pics of me sprinkled thoughout the site. One thing unqiue about me... apparently im the last person on earth who cooks real food during a campout. None of that space-food-in-a-bag for me. Its pancakes with blueberry syrup instead.

I grew up car camping and got hooked on backpacking in Shenandoah National Park through Scouts. Well, life goes on and before I knew it, I had taken a 15 year break. Recently rediscovered the sport.
These days I get out a few weekends a year. ANF is a favorite destination (partly due to proximity). I miss the mountain views though. Loved the Black Forest trail, would like to get back there for a through hike.

i've been enjoying camping and backpacking since '84.  i particularly like the allegheny national forest ,due to it's proximity to cleveland. also because of the variety of trails, and for the fact that when i go it's hardly ever been crowded. that's something i've come to appreciate as i've gotten older (i'm 42 now). i was very interested to find this site,to meet some new people. i'm very much interested in finding hiking partners, since the person i used to hike with is no longer in the area. i generally prefer shorter trips. while some people will wax poetic about trips to alaska, i much prefer new york and pennsylvania. the allegheny national forest and the adirondacks  are my favorite places to go.

I've been backpacking on and off for the past 30 years, mostly in the Allegheny Forest, Oil Creek, Pa. and Chautauqua, NY.

I tend to go out in colder weather, frequently in winter.
I'm good with snowshoes and x/c skis.

I prefer round-trip backpacks rather than base camps.

I've been on occasional trips to Dolly Sods, the Adirondacks, the Laurel Highlands and once each in Yosemite's high country, Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, the North Cascades and the Olympics.

I've been backpacking for 10 years and now have at least 6 of everything,(actually, I counted 7 stoves the other day)  so for those who are short on gear for a group trip, I can always bring extras.

My hiking experience ranges from 12 years in Alaska to West Virginia, and more recently, the Alleghany National Forest area.  My hiking pals and I have found that it is the best area for a relatively short drive.  3 hours from Akron. We Car-pool it, so get with me for details.

I've been backpacking for over 30 years and have recently started to sea kayak (4 years ago, I have a 17.5 foot Cape Horn). In the past I've also climbed rock and ice in the Alps and in the Rockies. Trail work with the North Country Trail Association took up alot of my time over the past 3 years so I haven't had time to get out very much. I hope to correct that in the future since I miss getting out. Although, trail work is hard work but fun with the right group of people and I really enjoy a well constructed piece of trail.

My wife and I have been hiking and backpacking for 20 years.  We have always had our children, grandchildren, or other family members along on our backpacking trips. Now most of them are involved in athletics, school, and other pursuits and it is almost impossible to plan a trip with them. We were happy to find a hiking club in this area. Most of our backpacking has been in the Smoky Mts and in Pennsylvania. We have day hiked in these same areas plus Acadia, White Mts, several National Parks out west, and a few places in Europe.

I am 39, and my wife and I live in Berea, Ohio.  I'm originally from Colorado but have lived in various states over the last two decades while attending college and grad school.

I'm really excited to start backpacking.  During my 20s I did a fair amount of hiking in the Rockies, and later in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota.  Nothing, though, on a regular basis.  Other commitments have kept me off the lakes and trails in recent years.  I'm still very much a novice.  I also enjoy running and fly fishing, and pretty much any outdoor activity.

Now that I have a little more time, I'm looking to improve my backpacking knowledge and skills and enjoy the wilderness in this region of the country.

See you on the trail!

I used to go backpacking often in high school and in college, and I am interested in getting back into it this summer.

I love the outdoors. I have been an avid cyclist, for years as a competitive road racer, and now I am looking to get into some other things I enjoy in the great outdoors.

The reason I am interested in the club is to find other folks who share the same interests, and whom I might be able to hook up with for a trip here and there. I also believe that I can learn from some more expereinced backpackers.

I've been looking for an outdoors club of some type for several months and am happy to have found this one.  I live in NW Ohio, but grew up in Kent, and ran across this site while checking online for the hrs for Appalachian Outfitters during a visit to my hometown.  The outdoors activities that I enjoy most are hiking and mountain biking, but I actually spend more time on my road bike than doing either of my favorite things, mainly due to convenience/lack of trails in my area.  I'm really looking forward to getting involved!

I spent a lot of my growing up out West, and worked in Glacier, Yosemite and Big Bend Nat'l Parks where I got into backpacking. I have also hiked the Cascades, Yellowstone, Arches and others. Now I'm learning to appreciate backpacking 'out east', since it's where I am planted for now. I backpacked Isle Royale with my 3 kids in August of 2004 for five days, where we ran into a moose and calf, and lots of 'camp foxes...cool! I had never heard a loon call before.. I finally got to hike Dolly Sods in warm and (very!) cold weather, and have fallen in love with WVa. Would like to hit Mount Rogers sometime and see the wild ponies. I wish I could be outside all my waking moments..& sleeping under the stars. I am looking forward to hitting more trails with you.

<3D~   I am married to Shark, have a part-time data entry job, and two cats.  I was born in 1979 and am originally from Kansas.

We've hiked and/or backpacked in WV, VA, PA, OH, NH (White Mountains) and Ireland.  That's my favorite, except for the 18.5 mile days.  We love the music and culture.  I have a hammered dulcimer and a bodhran and Shark plays the wooden spoons.

I'm very active and love spending time outdoors, especially on the trial.  Although I haven't done any backpacking, I'm very comfortable on the trail doing long, strenuous distances.  I'm hoping this group will provide an opportunity to explore the world of backpacking in a safe and enjoyable way.

I work in the conservation field at a land trust in northeast Ohio.  In the past I’ve worked as a research scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee and as a natural resource technician for Boulder County Parks and Open Space in Colorado.

I love to be outdoors.  Other than backpacking I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and working in my small garden.  I also love traveling and experiencing diverse ecosystems and cultures; some of my most memorable trips include study abroad programs in San Salvador, Bahamas, Salvador, Brazil, and Costa Rica.

I also have a great little dog who sometimes joins me on my backpacking trips.

I am interested in getting back into car camping with my 2 yr old and having some adult and nature time with backpacking. My best backpacking trip was in Pictured Rocks Nat'l Lakeshore. I've camped in Tetons, Yellowstone, Acadia, Theodore Roosevelt NP and Smoky Mtns. Hoping to make some trips this year!

I was on the Oil Creek State Park - West side trail today and encountered several club members walking out from a scheduled over-nite.  The West Side trail is my normal stay in shape and training trail.  The members I encountered looked like they were having fun dispite the not so great weather.

I try to do one backpacking trip per year in the western US, Olympic National Park for the last couple years (because my son lives near the Park). Last Summer it was the Bailey Range traverse....Wow.  It was tough but a great trip.  It was a lot harder than the piece in Backpacker magazine discribed it as - but also very rewarding.

I have been camping and enjoying the outdoors all my life. I got into backpacking a couple years back and have done short trek's on the AT and locally as well.  I enjoy the planning for a trip as much as the trip itself.  For me it is the relying on myself that interest's me the most.  I need to improve my skills and I also do this for my health as well.  I enjoy meeting new people that are down to earth and more into having a good time rather than themselves.  I have the worlds best girlfriend and two kids and enjoy a little time on the trail to clear my head.

Just got back into hiking last summer as the little guy is now old enough to take along. Mostly it's me and my two children, and they are young so we have been sticking to one night trips. Summer 2010 we're looking to do our first two night hike!

I was introduced to this fun group by Mcgyver when we were dating a couple years ago. We recently got married and have four wonderful daughters between the two of us. Hoping to get more involved with backpacking as a family. I work as a Sales Manager and enjoy art, photography, spending time with my family, meeting people, and being outside.

I live in Willowick and I've always liked hiking, camping, and the outdoors so this seems like a good fit.  Also, I no longer have a boat so I needed alternative means to get to morrison in PA so this seemed like a good way to get there.  Looking to meet some new people, make some new friends, get some new stories, and discover some new places I've never been.

I love to camp, backpack, hike, climb, mountain bike, kayak, slack line, music, reading, writing, yoga, art, or anything new and exciting. I have backpacked through Europe. I took a 30 day road trip out west solely to camp, climb, and mtb. Spent a lot of time in the woods during that trip.

I've been on three volunteer vacations for the American Hiking Society. I lived in Polson, Montana for two years, which is an hour and a half from Glacier National Park. I love the Pacific Northwest, and hiked the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island in August, 2004. I enjoy kayaking, cross-country skiing, and being outdoors with my dog, Cheyenne.

I am an ethnomusicology grad. student, wife and mom of two boys and two girls. My backpacking experience has been with our family, so I'm joining the club to get out with adults without going solo. My husband has had far-flung adventures to Denali, Algonquin, and Ranier. My experience is closer to home in the ANF, TN and Ontario.
