Very new to backpacking. I loved hiking when I was young. Listening to all my father-in-law's stories about backpacking has made me want to go back to the woods.

Not an "old-timer" on the trails by any mean, I only started backpacking a few years ago. I'm still getting the nuances of backpacking, such as not being the last one ready to head out in the morning and remembering not to pack my rain shell at the bottom of my pack regardless of how nice it looks when I set out. I'm also kind of a "mosier"...I prefer to go a little slower and actually take in the surroundings than to march from one campsite to another just to try and log as many miles as I can in one day. I'm really there for the pleasure of the woods, not to bust hump from point A to point B. I can do that anywhere. Me and my full-time tentmate (Stepbreathe) live in Delaware (about 20 miles N. of Columbus) and try to get out when we can. Looking to make more than a couple of trips this year, and I'd like to organize a trip to Shawnee primarily for folks with dogs.

Me and My husband love to camp. We have never Backpacked. Althought he has walked down a river and camped for a weekend. We are looking forward to doing this together.

I am a novice backpacker that enjoys short trips. I have done volunteer work on the AT and BT. I am a current member of the ATC. and BTA. I also enjoy to Rv camp and car camping. I have a love for the outdoors and enjoy photography. I am novice at that too. I am looking to get my 3 year old son out on the trail a little bit at a time.

Always enjoyed the outdoors with family while growing up. I started backpacking while in college, mostly weekend trips in Pennsylvania and New York. After school, I went on BP trips to Idaho, Montana & Washington state and more recently to Vermont & Maine.

I have not gone on as many trips as I used to. Hopefully NEOH will help me to get motivated again to leave life's responsibilities for awhile and get out in the woods more often!

I'm somewhat of a novice hiker, just doing mostly day hikes thus far (8-10 milers). My one weekend trip was on the AT and I overpacked big time. Even with the extra weight, I loved the hike and can't wait to get back out there. I'd like to get in some weekend hikes (2-3 nights) and eventually build up to a 7-10 day hike.

I also enjoy biking on the Towpath and through other parks in NE Ohio. Hit me up if you're interested in getting out for a hike or ride.

I've done a lot of hiking and backpacking in the past and as of Mar 2010 just moved back to TN after being in Northeast Ohio for the last 4 1/2 yrs. It's always time to get out into the woods!

I have been searching for a backpacking group around Akron. Hopefully this site can connect me with other backpackers to share the trail with. I am a photographer, and I love hiking/backpacking, and distance running on trails. Most weeks I hit about 20 miles of trail.

I am an adventurous woman with a lust for life attitude. I LOVE backpacking, camping, hiking, snowboarding and anything thing else that involes playing outdoors. I've been on small hiking trips, Zaleski in athens ohio, and I've done larger trips, the Sipsey Wilderness at Bankhead National Forest in Alabama. I've backpacked part of the AT; from Mt. Rogers, to Damascus, in VA. I am looking to add much, much, more to my list. Theres nothing like being out in the middle of nowhere with everything you need on your back! I LOVE IT!

I'm aging and I find backpacking keeps me fit and young at heart. I've lived in Baltimore for 5 years having moved with my wife Ann from Minnesota where we lived for 24 years, raising a son. Most of my outdoor adventures revolved around canoeing in the BWCA. I section hiked the Superior Hiking Trail while there. Fell in love with b-packing and, once in Maryland (not too many lakes to paddle here!), I decided to keep hiking. I thru-hiked the C & O Canal Trail (185 miles - not too challenging but very interesting history) in preparation for my 2006 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. I'm packing-out for the Quehanna Trail loop, as I write.(FYI- completed full loop in May 07) I'm a recreation consultant with a focus on disability issues. Oh, and I'm a born and bred Buckeye having grown up in Granville (east of Columbus), went to college at Wittenberg (Springfield) and lived in Akron. Any old timers out there? I managed the Base Camp outfitter store in Peninsula, OH between 1976-78.

I'm a AT hiker a section at a time. I have reached Mt. Rogers (and everything south) and been there 3 times, can't seem to get past it! It has taken me 10 years to get that far. Hope to meet other folks who enjoy the outdoors as much as I do.

I got into ultralight backpacking a few years ago. I plan on thru hiking the PCT and Colorado Trail within five years.

I love being outside, in the woods, river or on a mountain. I'm an artist and I sew, read, bike, fish and talk to strangers.

i enjoy back packing for 4 or five day trips complete primitive style
i bring my dog with me and make sure hes out fitted well and able to carry his own supply with his new ruff wear palisades 2 pack i was raised on a farm and have been living in the city for awhile and always just need to get away

I have always enjoyed hiking but have only gone on day trips and one overnight trip. I would like to go on more backpacking trips and learn the ropes involved.

I was raised in the gift shop of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and experienced my first backpacking trip while hitching a ride on the pack of a cyclist through the West Side Jungle of CLE.
I am now quite addicted to backpacking and will tag along many adventures. I have been on a variety of trails throughout PA and WV, and am looking forward to covering more ground as time goes on.
My favorite piece of gear is a Vaude pack, as it provides a very comfy ride...

I have been into Backpacking and hiking most of my life. I live in Central Ohio, but I am from Cleveland. My wife and I spent the last 18 years raising our children, driving to swim meets, football, and lacrosse games and pratices.
We are now free!! Kids are grown, in college, or working.I returned to the mountains and have climbed 5 mountains in the last fours years. Have been out in the woods many times, and forgot how much I missed it!

Hello, I'm Mark a 37 years of age. Shortly after discharge from the Service (US Navy 1989-1993) I moved to Alaska for four years. Been back in the lower-48 (Toledo, Ohio) since 2002. Miss going into the bush, have not humped a rucksack around since moving to the lower 48, except for one time with my Girlfriend (She hated the experience, it made me homesick..LOL) I am probably not the most experienced backpacker here by a long shot, but did enough of it in Alaska (mainly on the Kenai Penn. (Cains Head, Lost Lake near Seward, and Kachemak Bay State Park near Grewingk Glacier), to know that I miss being in the Wild. Also I just quit smoking back in Dec., so I am starting to steer my life the other way now. Anyway, hello eveyone.

I live in the North Hills suburbs of Pittsburgh. While I hadn't been on the trail much in years, I started again in 2006 -- I guess that makes me a "re-tread." After hiking/backpacking 200 miles in 2006, I am over half way to a 300 mile goal in 2007 and hope to do more serious backpacking in the Rockies in 2008. Highlights in 2006: an overnight backpack with my wife and daughters on the Morrison Trail in Allegheny National Forest, solo backpacking the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail (71 miles in 3 overnight trips) and an alpine dayhike in British Columbia. This year I enjoyed dayhiking the Susquehannock Trail in Potter County, PA (84 miles in 7 days) and a 2-night backpack in the Roaring Plains area of WV's Monongahela National Forest during which I first met NEOH. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my cat to carry my pack for me . . .

I have lived in the cleveland area for a few years now and have not found anyone that is adventureous enough to trek into the wilderness. I love being surrounded by the sound of nature not industrialization, and the challenge of a good hike. I have hiked out west and other coutries. Looking forward to seeing what ohio and surrounding states have to offer.

I enjoy back packing in NY (it's beautiful in the mtns) but there's never enough time to do all one would want to.
I'm involved with a Boy Scout troop & the boys really love back packing. We have been working on lightening loads & finding non commercial dehydrated meals. The kind from the grocery store fare that one creates or borrows from others such as NEOH.

I am a 42 year old married guy, just getting back into hiking after 20 years of not doing much. Used to enjoy hiking in the California high desert while I lived there. Decided to take up packing and backcountry camping since I felt I don't get enough nature or exercise. I am oging to kick off with a solo weekend at Wildcat Hollow. Would be nice to find som packing friends on here since my wife's idea of roughing it is calling room service (just kidding, but she is not into backcountry stuff, only car camping).

I have been backpacking for about four years. I have always done it solo with my dog, Rusty. I am always looking for better gear, tips and info on possible trails that I have not done. I finished the North-South Trail in TN and KY twice. Locally I have hiked Shawnee, Zaleski, Wild Cat Hollow and Mammoth Cave trails. For a 2 day hike my pack weights 32 lbs. I average 2.5 to 3.0 miles per hour and usually hike 10-14 miles per day. Rusty of course carries his water and food.

I have learned recently that my in-the-gym experience does not out way others in-the-woods experience. I love winter sports, and anything outdoors. I play sports, and work out several times a week.
