Meet and Hike
|
| What: | Club meeting and day hike | | When: | Sunday, 7 November 2004 | | 11:00am - 12:00p socialize. | | 12:00p hike! | | Where: | The Plateau Trail (or Oak Hill Trail), Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This is a lovely area in which to hike! Scenery includes many ponds, brush, deciduous, coniferous and mixed forests as well. The majority of the trail follows a ravine and one off-shoot of the Plateau Trail actually takes you to an astonishingly beautiful section of the ravine filled with hemlocks (my personal favourite).
I suggest taking the Plateau trail....4.9 miles, very little elevation change and breathtakingly beautiful! (the attached map says this trail is of moderate to difficult rating, but i can assure you it is nothing but delightful the entire way). The Oak Hill Trail is a tiny, 1.5 mile loop inside the Plateau Trail rated easy.
A map with both of these trails can be found by clicking here. | | Directions: | from I-271 take the 303 exit (exit 12) and go east. Immediately after the exit turn right (south) on Major Road. Then turn right (South) on Oak Hill Road. The entrance to Oak Hill Picnic Area is on your left. Follow the gravel driveway 0.2 miles to the parking lot.
from I-77 south, exit at Wheatly Road (The first sign you see on the 77 will say Wheatly Road, the next one will say 176 but not Wheatly Road, but this is the correct exit.). Turn left (east) off the exit ramp and take it to Oak Hill Road. Turn left, going north about 2 miles. The entrance to Oak Hill Picnic Area is on your right. Follow the gravel driveway 0.2 miles to the parking lot.
Alternatively, you could take Route 8 south to Route 303, then head west to Riverview Road and follow RIverview south approximately 1 mile to Major Road. Turn right, following Major Road, west 1.5 miles then turn left on to Oak Hill Road. The entrance to Oak Hill Picnic Area (and the trails) is on the eastern side of Oak Hill Road. Turn left and follow the driveway for 0.2 miles east to the parking lot.
There is a huge parking lot on Oak Hill to accomodate our group. Picnic tables and port-a-potty are also on site. | | Who : | everyone and a friend! | | For questions, call Aaron at 440.442.2311
